The Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA) gives high school students a chance to learn how to interact with their peers as they learn about leadership skills.
Alice High School students Rose Torres, Clarissa Salinas, Nicole Cuadra and Nicolas Coleman attended the three day camp at Camp Zephyr at Mathis Lake.
The students were sponsored to attend RYLA by the Alice Rotary Club. On Wednesday, the students addressed rotarians about their individual experiences at the leadership development program.
Salinas and Cuadra shared how they learned who they were as they were taught about leadership and what it takes to be a leaders.
Torres attended RYLA before, but this year she attend as a trailblazer. According to Torres, a trailblazer is part camper and part counselor. She briefed Rotarians about how completely different her experience was watching and participating at another level. She is the first student from Alice High School who was asked to return to the camp as a trailblazer.
In three days the students made connections with other young peers, overcame obstacles and learn about their strengths and weaknesses.
Each student thanked the rotarians for allowing them to have the life altering experience.
