Alice Rotary Club member Sandra Maldonado-Bowen worked, independently, to organize a project called "Nurses From Afar" in an effort to show these front liners the appreciation of the community.
Teaming up with community members and leaders as well as organizations the project was developed to provide meals and snacks for the out of state nurses in the area helping the county’s public health crisis against the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Mrs. Bowen created the project in honor of Calvin T. Ladner, P.E., the Founder and President of LJA Engineering, Inc. Mr. Ladner, who recently lost his battle with COVID-19, had a vast love for the community and though not a Rotarian proved to be a true example of Service Above Self.
Additional Rotarians that participated in this project were Ron Burke and Margie Gonzalez.
